Silence of the Lamb

Tuesday 22 November 2011

We were pottering about, early evening Tuesday, when Alison and the Winnebago kids came up, asking for help.  Christoforos, the sheep man, had presented them with a new born lamb, and they didn't know if it was a short loan for the children to play with, or a gift.  The only words they had been able to make out were to take it back to their home.

It was very new, with a shrivelled umbilical cord still in place.  I rang my Dad, who has some knowledge of sheep and he gave us good advice for keeping it alive if that should be our task.  We were just getting used to the idea of starting up Goat Bottom's petting zoo when Christoforos reappeared, and was horrified at the idea that the lamb was anything other than a short loan.  We smoothed it all over, and were glad to see it go back to its wet-nurse mother-substitute.  Phew!

On the subject of animals – Sue at NewsStand has been invaded by this stray kitten that has made a home for itself on the jiffy bags.  It’s getting in through a very small hole, and will one day be unable to get either in or out, whichever it is when it happens.
