Garden Delights

1 - 4 May 2020

Everything in the garden is rosy - especially the roses.  We have had such a number of blooms on one of the bushes, that when I went to deadhead them I realised there was a basketful of dried, fine-smelling petals there for the picking.

The basket of rose petals - they smell lovely, so I will put them on a dish on the windowsill when they're fully dry.

A hard day of more bramble-clearing - this time in this area under an olive tree, close to the drive.  Nice to have this cleared, although it will re-grow very quickly with a bit of rain.

A damselfly comes to visit the pond.

The borage is in full flower.  It is self-seeded and opportunistic, but it brings up minerals from deep in the soil and deposits them on the surface when the leaves fall.  It is also a great bee-plant, and good ground cover, so we are actively collecting the dead flower heads and helping to spread the seed where we want it to go.

This is our one precious comfrey plant - even better than borage!  It is very overgrown at the moment - a job to be done there.

The flowering cherry is flowering.  It is very pretty, but this tree was a gift and we think it is not designed to produce fruit, which is a pity.

Just the start of our amazing beetroot harvest!

Dave taking a rest by the lavender (looking scruffy with his 'lockdown' hair)

We planted out the seedling Moringa trees, hoping they don't get eaten by slugs.

The self-seeded random apple is flowering well this year.  Maybe it will make a few apples.
