We had planned to visit Liana, our friend and complementary therapist, a couple of days before the end of the year, but it was forecast for rain, so instead we found ourselves travelling in the middle of the holiday season. We were visiting the area around Kalavryta, a popular winter sports area on the Peloponnese.

We were visiting the area around Kalavryta, a popular winter sports area on the Peloponnese.
It was the longest trip yet for the electric car but we managed it with ease.
On arrival at a little eco-lodge where Liana knew the owner, we lit a log fire in our cabin, Dave had a treatment from Liana and then we went to eat. There was a buffet scheduled for 9pm, which we thought rather late, but in the event, we had to wait for all the tables to arrive and didn’t eat till 10:30, which was cruel!
Sunrise over the mountains, New Year's Day (from inside our cosy chalet)
After breakfast we drove to Liana's village and she and Giorgos took us for a mushroom hunt in the forest. It was a nearly vertical scramble among ankle deep leaf mould, and we loved it.

Mostly we found these - Black Trumpet mushrooms, a relative of Chanterelles
Liana demonstrates the first one she finds
The glorious moment when I find my own first clump
Later on, the mushroom basket is overflowing. In all, we found four types: Black Trumpets, Terracotta Hedgehogs, Jelly Ears and a few Pinkmottle Woodwax. Yes, really. Who knew?
Uh oh!
Next morning's surprise dusting of snow prevented Liana getting out of her valley to show us round Kalavryta, so as soon as the sun was high enough we made our way down the mountain and home.
