Poor boat is lacking a toerail, which turns out to be a vital structural element, as it spreads the load of the bolts which hold the deck to the hull. The boatyard said we had to move, as we’d only asked to be in for a few weeks, and on that basis they’d put the boat somewhere that was now inconvenient, and would stop them manoeuvring other boats into position.
The insurers said they weren’t involved, if we wanted to move the boat, fine, but there was no insurance cover. So in a state of suppressed panic, we watched the yard move the boat. They gave us about 5 minutes notice. The surveyor had asked for a couple of hours, so he could be present. So I telephoned him and he said to put blue tapes over the join, and watch carefully for any movement.
Dave and I had spent all weekend rebolting all along the edge, using bits of the old toerail where we could. In the event, all seems to have gone well. Phew!
