Interracting with Olives

Thursday 23 December 2010

Later on, Shrimpy agreed to show us where in the hinterland we could take our olives.  So we drove out towards Sivota, turned right towards Sivros, and then right again up to Vournikas.  This is a precipitous little village, luckily sleepy and without much traffic, as the lanes were one vehicle wide and dropped away sharply.

We turned up a steep hill, passed an ancient Massey Ferguson tractor sleeping in a tumbledown shed, and found ourselves at this surprisingly slick modern olive press.

Unfortunately, there was no-one there, but we found someone to give us a phone number and arranged to come back in the morning.  At least we knew where it was, now.

Back on site, we decided the time had come to try out the stove - now that the pipe was fully installed.  We fired up our first olive wood log, brought in the sofa, and basked in the warmth.

Richie showed up, willing to work, but we were too excited by the stove to think of anything to give him to do.
