Anticipation

Saturday 3 March 2012

A lovely sunny day, at last.  Sitting waiting for the expected digger to arrive.  We hadn't been told a time, so after getting up bright and early and photographing the cats and rescuing a couple of patches of anenomes and generally messing around, I rang Constantine and he said the digger driver was on another job, but would come to us when he finished.  We got the call at eleven, to say he had mobilised, so we moved the cars and waited excitedly for the digger to arrive.  The kids found a good place to watch and Michael and Alison settled down to a grandstand view.

The digger driver was called Gerasimos and he looked like he'd done this job before.  He surveyed the site, we all discussed the olive tree problem, he said, 'move the location up the hill' - better view, clearer air.  More healthy.  So no point starting now, he'd come back in the morning, perhaps we could move our solar panel frame and re-draw the lines on the ground.

One moment we think we're ready, the next we're being pushed around.  But it is better to be higher up the hill, and Constantine suggested we move just a metre or two further from the olive trees to avoid the danger of being stopped by the tree man claiming we've cut up his bit of the land.

Constantine and Gerasimos left, and Dave rang Rob, who brought Howard and Petos, and Michael from the Winnebago came over and they moved the frame

Then Dave and Rob moved the chicken house - which is heavier, but for some reason the others just stood and watched, while Dave put his back out.  Typical.

Then Dave went to help in the bar and I redrew the lines - most of them, anyway, I got a bit hot and flustered after a while and sat down for a glass of wine with Alison from the Winnebago who'd come over to help.

Gerasimos left the digger with us overnight, which helped me acclimatise!
