A bright, dry couple of days; Dave made a small mix of lime mortar, and we installed the slab steps outside the front door. Meanwhile, the workforce for the track turned up and started pouring concrete to stabilise the track.

Dry-stone walling continues along the bank beside the Solarium
Then I sprinkled some creeping thyme seeds into the stones to see if any germinate in spring and make this all look like it's been here forever. As we used lime mortar, we positioned some upended chairs to dissuade use for a week or so.
After a day of hard slog, the workforce on the track finished at dusk. Next morning, the concrete was hard and we could go investigate the track.
The concrete is a very nice job, not too smooth, not too rugged, but where it ends (at our territory line) the ground has been churned up hugely by the trucks bringing supplies. We'll never get the car through that! But pretty confident our builder will sort it out for us.
Close up of the mush
Our gate post (dark) and a little picket gate post (light), not quite aligned with each other! Nice of them to put in the picket post, though.
